Simple Homemade Cheese

Simple Homemade Cheese

Do you want to make your own cheese? This Simple Homemade Cheese recipe is a memory from my past in the middle east, i remember visiting my grandmother when i was very young and she would always have her own homemade cheese made. I even remeber her making this Cheese a few times so i tried to recreate it.

The whole process was very easy and quick, all you need to pay attention to is the amount of vinegar that you will need. If the milk doesn’t separate into curds you will need to slowly add a bit more vinegar, one tablespoon at a time.

Tip: For the cloth you can use an old clean pillowcase.

Ingredients:

  • 2lt full fat milk
  • 3 tbsps white vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 2 tbsps sesame seeds
  • salt

Method:

  1. In a large saucepan pour in the milk and bring it to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once the milk has got warm add the 3 tablespoons of vinegar.
  3. When it comes to a boil reduce the heat and you will probably notice the milk separating into curds.
  4. As mentioned before if the milk hasn’t separated yet add a bit more vinegar until the milk starts separating into curds.
  5. You will see the cheese forming, let the cheese sit there in the water for 1- 2 hours until cool.
  6. Drain the water and add the salt, pepper and thyme and stir everything together.
  7. Remove the curds/ cheese from the saucepan and use a cloth to tie it up.
  8. Let the cloth hang in a cool place for a day.
  9. Cut your cheese in thick pieces, sprinkle with sesame seeds and thyme and enjoy!
