Oven Baked Meatballs
Oven Baked Meatballs
These Oven Baked Meatballs are herby and just so yummy! Keftedakia or else just called Meatballs are a Greek meat dish you just can’t say no to. Meatballs in Greece are usually made with a mixture of beef and lamb and then fried in olive oil. Our version is a bit healthier so we are using just beef mince and we are baking our meatballs.
Ingredients:
- 500gr beef minced meat
- 4 tbsps oats
- 2 eggs
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 1tsp salt
- 2 tbsps olive oil
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1/2 bunch of spearmint, finely chopped or you can use dried mint instead
- 1/2 cup water
Method:
- In a large bowl add the mince meat, chopped onions, olive oil, oats, eggs, spearmint, oregano and salt and pepper.
- Take a cup with water beside you and using your hands start mixing all the ingredients together.
- While kneading the meatballs, sprinkle some water over the mixture and keep pouring until you have used all the wate and the ingredients are well combined, about 5 to 10 minutes.
- Finally cover the bowl and let the mixture sit in a fridge for at least an hour.
- After an hour has passed, take a baking tray and brush it with some olive oil or line with greaseproof paper.
- Roll the mixture into meatballs, about the size of an apricot and place in the tray.
- Let some space between the meatballs and bake in a preheated oven on 160- 180C for about 20-30 minutes.
- You serve your meatballs with rice, potatoes or salad for a lighter meal.
