Oven Baked Meatballs

 Oven Baked Meatballs

These Oven Baked Meatballs are herby and just so yummy! Keftedakia or else just called Meatballs are a Greek meat dish you just can’t say no to. Meatballs in Greece are usually made with a mixture of beef and lamb and then fried in olive oil. Our version is a bit healthier so we are using just beef mince and we are baking our meatballs.

Ingredients:

  • 500gr beef minced meat
  • 4 tbsps oats
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 onions, finely  chopped
  • 1tsp salt
  • 2 tbsps olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 bunch of spearmint, finely chopped or you can use dried mint instead
  • 1/2 cup water

Method:

  1. In a large bowl add the mince meat, chopped onions, olive oil, oats, eggs, spearmint, oregano and salt and pepper.
  2. Take a cup with water beside you and using your hands start mixing all the ingredients together.
  3. While kneading the meatballs, sprinkle some water over the mixture and keep pouring until you have used all the wate and the ingredients are well combined, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Finally cover the bowl and let the mixture sit in a fridge for at least an hour.
  5. After an hour has passed, take a baking tray and brush it with some olive oil or line with greaseproof paper.
  6. Roll the mixture into meatballs, about the size of an apricot and place in the tray.
  7. Let some space between the meatballs and bake in a preheated oven on 160- 180C for about 20-30 minutes.
  8. You serve your meatballs with rice, potatoes or salad for a lighter meal.

I love the sound of these! I like to bake my meatballs too so that they are a bit healthier.
