Turkey and Spinach Tart

A yummy rustic tart you can enjoy as an appetizer or even a light meal.  This Turkey and Spinach Tart can be changed to your liking and you can use other igredients for the filling.

Ingredients for the pastry:

  • 280gr flour
  • 150gr butter
  • a bit of salt
  • 1-2 tbsp water

Ingredients for the filling:

  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 300gr turkey
  • 250gr spinach
  • a bit of pepper
  • Cream sauce

Ingredients for the cream sauce:

  • 2 glasses of milk
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 50gr butter
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • mozzarella

Method: 

  1. We want to start with the pastry. To make the pastry first melt the butter.
  2. Add in a large bowl and sieve the flour in, add a bit of salt and mix well.
  3. Add a bit of water, a few tbsps until the mix binds and it becomes a dough.
  4. Tip the pastry onto a lightly floured surface, gather into a ball and roll out.
  5. Line the pastry into the base of a tin and trim the pastry edges  if needed.
  6. Press the pastry in well and very lightly prick the base with a fork.
  7. Let the pastry cool for a few minutes before adding the filling.

For the filling: 

  1. Heat a frying pan and saute the chopped onion until translucent.
  2. Add the spinach, salt and pepper and cook for a few minutes.
  3. If possible chop the turkey into cubes and saute for a few minutes as well.
  4. Remove any excess liquid and just put the filling on the side so you can make your cream sauce.
  5. In a saucepan add the milk, butter, nutmeg, a bit of salt, and add the flour slowly while stirring to create a thick creamy sauce.
  6. Then add the mozzarella, mix well so it melts and remove from heat.
  7. You can now add your filling in the tin over the pastry, top with some mozzarella and bake in a pre heated oven at 180C.
  8. Your Turkey and Spinach Tart will be ready when the cheese on top is golden brown.
