Sausages in Rich Tomato Sauce

This recipe is traditionally made in Greece and it’s called Spetsofai. This spicy Greek dish is made with thick country sausages and peppers. It is also lovely with spicy Italian or German sausages but you can use what you prefer. If you are using normal sausages then you can spicy it up with the use of chili peppers. . If using spicy sausages, then use mild peppers. This Sausages in Rich Tomato Sauce recipe is great as an appetizer, have it with some feta and bread to dig in the sauce .


  • 500gr sausages
  • 3-4 peppers
  • 2 chili peppers
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 500gr fresh chopped tomatoes
  • 1-2 tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of cumin
  • Salt & pepper


  1. Chop the peppers and sausages into smaller pieces.
  2. Heat the olive oil in medium to high heat.
  3. Saute the peppers and then chili peppers.
  4. Fry chopped sausages until cooked through.
  5. In a saucepan heat the olive oil and add the onions and garlic. Cook until the onions are golden brown and then add the chopped tomatoes.
  6. Add salt, pepper and cumin.
  7. Once the tomato sauce boils add all the cooked ingredients in and mix all together.
  8. Enjoy!
