Fava Beans with Yogurt

Fava Beans with yogurt or a variation of the famous Ful bel-laban Syrian dish. Ful is Arabic for Fava beans or dried beans. The flavours in this dish are traditional but also exciting for many.

Ingredients: 

  • 500gr Fave beans (dried beans)
  • 300gr greek style yogurt
  • 3 tbsps. tahini (sesame paste)
  • 1 big garlic glove, minced
  • 1/2 ripe firm tomato
  • Salt &pepper
  • a bit of cumin
  • 5 tbsp olive oil

For the yogurt sauce:

  1. In a bowl mix the yogurt with a bit of warm water, just to make it a bit more runny.
  2. Add the tahini, minced garlic, the cumin, salt and pepper.
  3. Add the olive oil and mix all the ingredients well.

Method: 

  1. Soak the dried beans from the night befoe for about 6 to 10 hours.
  2. Soaking the beans is very important in order to get rid off all the scum and make your beans more digestible.
  3. When your beans are ready cut out the black parts and add them in a saucepan.
  4. Cook the beans for about 40 minutes or until cooked.
  5. Add your beans in a bowl, pour over the yogurt sauce and serve with some fresh chopped tomatoes.
  6. If you like you can also add finely chopped onions or serve it with some pickles on the side.
  7. Enjoy!
