Homemade Lemon Liqueur

Homemade Lemon Liqueur

There is something special about homemade liqueurs, maybe because it’s so rewarding to make your own and you can show off to all your family and friends! This Homemade Lemon Liqueur is perfect to have after a big meal. The liqueur is soooo easy to prepare all you need is patience for the liqueur to infuse.

Ingredients:

  • 7 large lemons
  • 800 ml grain alcohol or Vodka

For the syrup:

  • 800 gr sugar
  • 1ℓ water

Method:

  1. Rinse all the lemons very well.
  2. Using a peeler remove the lemon zest in thin strips.
  3. We want the lemon strips to be as thin as possible so there is no white pith.
  4. In a sealable glass container, combine the lemon strips and the Vodka together.
  5. You can use some cling film to make sure the container is well sealed.
  6. Let it steep for about 20 – 25 days in a dark cool space until most of the colour and flavour is infused from the lemon strips.
  7. Before opening the container, you want to have the syrup ready.
  8. For the syrup, in a saucepan over medium heat, bring the water and sugar to a boil. Turn the heat low and stir until the sugar dissolves and you have a clear syrup.
  9. Let the syrup cool before adding in the lemon and vodka syrup.
  10. Open the glass container and strain the liquid then add the syrup and transfer back to a glass container and let it sit in a cool place for about 3 days.
  11. Serve your Homemade Lemon Liqueur chilled, perfect after fish meals.
