Turkey and Spinach Tart
A yummy rustic tart you can enjoy as an appetizer or even a light meal. This Turkey and Spinach Tart can be changed to your liking and you can use other igredients for the filling.
Ingredients for the pastry:
- 280gr flour
- 150gr butter
- a bit of salt
- 1-2 tbsp water
Ingredients for the filling:
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 300gr turkey
- 250gr spinach
- a bit of pepper
- Cream sauce
Ingredients for the cream sauce:
- 2 glasses of milk
- 2 tbsp flour
- 50gr butter
- pinch of nutmeg
- mozzarella
Method:
- We want to start with the pastry. To make the pastry first melt the butter.
- Add in a large bowl and sieve the flour in, add a bit of salt and mix well.
- Add a bit of water, a few tbsps until the mix binds and it becomes a dough.
- Tip the pastry onto a lightly floured surface, gather into a ball and roll out.
- Line the pastry into the base of a tin and trim the pastry edges if needed.
- Press the pastry in well and very lightly prick the base with a fork.
- Let the pastry cool for a few minutes before adding the filling.
For the filling:
- Heat a frying pan and saute the chopped onion until translucent.
- Add the spinach, salt and pepper and cook for a few minutes.
- If possible chop the turkey into cubes and saute for a few minutes as well.
- Remove any excess liquid and just put the filling on the side so you can make your cream sauce.
- In a saucepan add the milk, butter, nutmeg, a bit of salt, and add the flour slowly while stirring to create a thick creamy sauce.
- Then add the mozzarella, mix well so it melts and remove from heat.
- You can now add your filling in the tin over the pastry, top with some mozzarella and bake in a pre heated oven at 180C.
- Your Turkey and Spinach Tart will be ready when the cheese on top is golden brown.
