Easy Peasy Dhal


  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 4 finely chopped garlic cloves
  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 chili pepper
  • 1 piece of ginger minced (3.80 cm)
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 2 chopped tomatoes


  1. Rinse lentils and let soak for 30 minutes.
  2. In a saucepan add 2 cups of water, garlic, ginger, onion, tomatoes, chili pepper and lentils.
  3. Cook on medium heat and bring to boil, then lower the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes or until the lentils are translucent.
  4. In a bowl add cumin seeds and black mustard seeds and in another bowl add paprika and turmeric.
  5. In a pan warm the sunflower oil and add the first bowl with all the seeds, then add the second bowl with the spices and cook for about 30 seconds so they don’t burn. Be careful of the splutters.
  6. Pour the mixture into the saucepan and stir well.
  7. Enjoy your Easy Pease Dhal!!
